How to Choose Fashion in India: A Practical Buying Guide
By BachatRaja Team · 29 Oct 2026
Buying fashion online in India is easy. Buying well takes a little more care. Sizes differ between brands, discounts look dramatic, and photos rarely show how something feels. This guide covers what to check before you pay, whether you shop on a marketplace or a brand's own site.
Start with fit, not the discount
The most common reason for returns is fit. Indian and international brands often size differently, so a medium in one label can feel like a large in another. Always open the size chart on the product page and compare it with a garment or pair of shoes you already own and like. Measure your own chest, waist or foot length instead of guessing from your usual size.
For footwear, check whether the listing gives a foot length in centimetres or only a UK/India size number. If you are between sizes, read the product description and the Q&A section for notes on whether it runs small or large. If the page has no such information, treat that as a gap and be cautious.
Read the material and care details
Fabric affects comfort in India's climate. Cotton and cotton blends are generally more breathable in hot, humid weather, while heavier or synthetic fabrics can feel warm. The listing should state the material. If it does not, ask the seller or look elsewhere. Also check the care instructions. Dry-clean-only clothing adds ongoing cost that a low price does not show.
For shoes, look at what the upper and sole are made of, and think about where you will use them: daily commuting, the gym, or occasional wear. For watches, check the case material, strap type, and whether the listing mentions water resistance. If it does not, do not assume it.
Understand how discounts work
A "60% off" tag is calculated against the MRP, and the MRP is set by the seller. It does not tell you what the item is worth. A better habit is to ask whether the final price fits your budget and whether you would buy the item at that price without the discount label. Also check for extra charges, bank offer conditions, and whether the price changes with the size you pick.
Prices on fashion platforms change often, sometimes within the day, and sale prices can end or sell out. Treat any price you read in a guide as a snapshot and confirm it on the store before you buy.
Check returns, exchanges and seller details
Before you add anything to your cart, read the return policy for that specific item. Some categories have shorter return windows or are non-returnable, and conditions such as unworn items with tags attached usually apply. Find out whether exchanges are free, whether you need to pay for return shipping, and how refunds are made. Also check whether the item is sold by the platform or by a third-party seller, since policies can differ.
Current deals to look at
The deals below are from our database at the time of writing. We have not tested these products, and we are not making quality claims about them. Use the checklist above before deciding.
- Women's Knit Running Sneakers on Myntra: ₹1,499, against an MRP of ₹3,999 (63% off). - Stainless Steel Analog Watch for Men on Flipkart: ₹2,499, against an MRP of ₹5,999 (58% off). - Men's Court Sneakers, Cushioned Sole on Ajio: ₹2,299, against an MRP of ₹4,599 (50% off). - Chronograph Analog Watch, Leather Strap on Myntra: ₹3,995, against an MRP of ₹7,995 (50% off).
For the sneakers, check the size chart and the return policy for footwear. For the watches, confirm the case size, water resistance and warranty terms on the product page, because we do not have those details. Prices and availability may have changed since this was written, so check the store for the current price.
A quick checklist before you pay
- Compare the size chart with your own measurements. - Confirm the material and care instructions. - Read the return and exchange terms for that item. - Note whether the seller is the platform or a third party. - Check the final price after delivery charges and offer conditions. - Look at customer photos and written reviews on the store for fit comments, and read a spread of them instead of only the top ones.
Take your time with each of these steps. A slightly smaller discount on something that fits and suits your needs is usually better than a big discount on something you will return or never wear.
